By popular demand, here are some opportunities for learning the basics of social media participation and marketing across Canada in a classroom environment.
While I have gone to great lengths to only provide listings from programs at accredited institutions, inclusion here is by no means a recommendation and I urge you to make inquiries into the class thoroughly prior to signing up. I will update this post frequently as social media classes appear and disappear – I encourage you to send me details of social media classes across Canada so I can add them to this list. This list is not exhaustive.

Danielle,
Thank you so much for posting this.
I am currently looking for a class on “blogging” and creative web design, I am gaga over your page atm.
Hi @Vrockica – there are plenty of new classes popping up at colleges/universities across Canada. The best way to understand the tools of social media it to participate, listening and being vocal at the same time.
I share links here: http://storytlr.daniellegauthier.com – many of them will be social media related. I try to find a few good articles from around the web each day.
Thanks for your comment and let me know if I can help.
Thanks so much for this info!! a HUGE help :)
Thanks Joyce for stopping by – I am glad I could help. :)
Hi Danielle,
I’m looking to take a course specifically on social media marketing, I know these are not recommendations but do you have any recommendations? If you have heard any feedback on any of them?
Thanks again!
Sorry – can’t make any direct recommendations. These classes are all very new.
What I can recommend is email the professor before signing up. Ask them about their social media experience. Do they have a blog? Do they have a Twitter account? A Facebook account? Check them out. And more importantly, find out more about their marketing background – what real businesses/organizations have they marketed online and have they ever used social media as a marketing tool. I always contact the professor before taking a class – they always email me back, usually they are excited to talk about the class and tell me more.
But the best thing you can do to learn more about social media is just get out there – read the blogs, follow influential leaders on Twitter, and ultimately become part of the conversation. There is a wealth of information online on the topic and to be quite honest, everything you will learn in a classroom can be found online for free. The value of formal learning here is that they round it all up for you.
I know this is not the recommendation you were looking for, but hope it helps nonetheless.
